I am going crazy lately trying to figure out what I should be doing. I feel that my traffic decreased over half due to the Google mayday update that focused on long tail keywords. After all my niches sites main source of traffic was long tails.
I had a site that was top 5 page 1 in Google that dropped to page 10+ after mayday. I went from over 900 clicks to EPN per day down to just over 100 clicks per day. So I took this site and bought 5 blog articles and posted them and also bought 2 articles that I posted to ezinearticles.com and articlebase.com. I should also note that this site was a PR3 all along this process. So here I had a PR3 site that was tanked after mayday. I was almost ready to give up hope for this site that is now getting 10 – 20 uniques per day… when today it sprang back into action! Today the site had over 200 uniques. I am going to assume that my article submissions and fresh content posts are what did the trick.
I read several blogs that talk about mayday and they are all saying the content and back links are what you need to regain your long-tails back. I targeted long-tails because they were easy! They are not so much any longer.
So this got me thinking that maybe I should restructure what I do. What if I pick one niche and do one site at a time. I will work this one site until I get it to maybe 50 or 100 clicks to EPN per day. I will do articles and back links and all the stuff I really hate to do. Most of it I will probably outsource. Maybe I will set a goal of $10 per day from the site before I say it is finished and move on to the next niche site.
Doing this will help me create a better niche site that Google and the visitor will find more useful. Thus hopefully keeping my rankings longer and gaining a more stable income. Thoughts?
Today I am on page 3. I wish I could hold my page 1 position… geez!
I’m bouncing all over the place, page 1, page 10, page 3. Google sucks, no doubt about it. Your focus in this article is what I try to do with each of my sites, hence, I’m only doing 13 campaigns right now and tearing it up. Good luck!
Hey man! good to hear from you again. I am siked that you are doing so well now. I knew it would pick up for you if you just kept at it.
Do you care to share about how many pages you have in your typical site? I think I am going to move away from the dynamic thing I was doing and start with small 10 page content sites. Going to make all links on those pages go to another page on my site that will then show adsense and EPN. That “affiliate page” if you want to call it that will not be indexed per my robots file. It will be dynamic and show ads based on the data passed to it. This will decrease my visitor bounce rate. Something that I was reading might help with rankings even though Google says it does not take this into consideration.
I will also do articles to build back links. ok… now off to decide on my first niche to attack with my new process.
Shoot me an email with ideas or tips man… I need to get my income back up asap… thanks!
Ever since the Mayday Google change my earnings have plummeted and I’m having the same problem as you with income.
I only have 12 epn sites but earnings over those sites has gone down about 75%!
I am thinking along the same lines as you that I need more unique content so am testing that out, however have had little improvement so far.
Hey Joe… I hear you! I think I am going to have to work a lot harder to get my earnings back to where they were before mayday. I recommend doing it one site at a time. Especially in my case where I have around 100 sites. It sucks but that is affiliate marketing I guess… always something changing that we have to adapt too…
